Leon A. Benoit, age 69, beloved husband of 47 years, Lorraine A. (O'Brien) Benoit, died Thursday at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington with his family by his side after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Arlington, April 20, 1956, a son of the late Andrew F. and Isabel L. (Papagani) Benoit from Medford, MA. He has resided and lived in Billerica since 1987 in the home he helped build.

Leon was a graduate of the Medford Vocational High School class of 1974 and began work as an electrician for Local #103. He was the youngest to obtain his Electrician's license on 12/22/1975 at 19 years old. His last position was an electrician with Keolis before retiring.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, T.J. Rutka-Benoit and his husband Shawn of Middletown, CT, Brien Benoit and his former wife Beth of Billerica, Shaun Benoit and his wife Amanda of Billerica, and Dylan Benoit and his wife Michelle of Tewksbury.

He has a brother, Jim Benoit, and his wife Lisa of Harrison, ME, and a sister, Marie, and her husband, Paul Ferrazzani, of Medford. A cousin, more like a brother, Joey Papagno and wife Mary of Wakefield.

He also had seven grandchildren: Holly, Brien, Landon, Angelina, Olivia, Nora, and Emma. As well as Kasie Wester and her husband and two sons. With a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends close enough to be considered family.

He was known as Leon, Lee, Dad, Big Guy, Buddy, Choo-Choo, Uncle Lee, and his favorite - Papa. Being surrounded by those he loved and cherished were his fondest memories. When not surrounded by them, he was sure to reach out via phone or FaceTime.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd. from 11 a.m. – 1p.m. with a period of remembrance at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center at https://secure3.convio.net/bidmc/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app30130b?df_id=6143&mfc_pref=T&6143.donation=form1&utm_source=main-website&utm_medium=CTA&utm_id=LAH

Lorraine - My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of Leon. I only sat with you and your brother in law for a few hours in the waiting room at Lahey but I could feel what a wonderful family you have. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.
