Leon John Weber Sr., 99, of New Albany Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday November 14, 2025, after a long fun life with family and friends from here and Newport, Kentucky/Cincinnati, OH.
Lee was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He was known for his quick wit, chicken dance skills, love of dogs, and his extensive collection of hats, each chosen with care for the occasion.
Born in Newport, Kentucky to Helen & Joseph Weber. Lee served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy, a time he often recalled with pride and a sense of duty. He would often jokingly say HE won the war. After his military service, he met his tiny but mighty wife, Marian Elizabeth Odenbeck (Boop) and moved to New Albany, Indiana for work and to start their family.
In his free time, you could almost always find Lee pursuing one of his many interests. An avid sportsman, he cherished time spent on the golf course, always striving for that hole-in-one. When he wasn't perfecting his swing, he was an enthusiastic supporter of the IU Hoosiers, cheering them on through every season, a true-blue, we say, RED fan to the end. In his later years, he enjoyed playing rummy with HIS rules and reading books even if they were upside down at times.
Lee also had a notable sweet tooth and specific culinary preferences. He found joy in a cold beer (though he was just as happy with a frothy mug of root beer), red licorice, ice cream, and, of course, chocolate bars. His family and friends will fondly remember the twinkle in his eye when given any of these treats.
Above all, Lee treasured his family and proudly displayed pictures in what he jokingly called the wall of shame. Always there in quiet strength for each of us. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marian (Boop) and survived by his children, Missy (Randy), Amy (Eric dec. 2008) Laure, Skeeter. (Alice) his 6 grandchildren, Brandon (Elise), Brianne (Zach), Sam (Jessica), Ellen (Ben), Amanda (Dyllan) & Kyle (Arin) and 5 great grandchildren: Hayes, Porter, Penelope, Amelia, Casey Lee and another one on the way.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday November 19, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home in New Albany, Indiana. In true Lee fashion, attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite hat.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Holy Family Church in New Albany on Thursday 11/20/25 at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lee Weber’s memory to New Albany Animal Shelter, Holy Family Church in New Albany or Elder High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
