LEON CHARLES MULLERLEILE, age 89, of Waseca, passed away on April 9, 2025 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Leon was born on May 15, 1935, in Smiths Mill to Harry and Marie (Worrell) Mullerleile. As a boy he enjoyed trapping, fishing and anything he could do outdoors. During his high school days, Leon participated in baseball, basketball, and football, graduating from Janesville High School with the class of 1953. Following his graduation, Leon served in the United States Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1956. Upon returning from the service, he continued his education at Mankato State University where he studied accounting. On November 4, 1967, Leon was united in marriage to Cheryleen Gekeler, together they had two children and later divorced.
Leon worked for Skelly Oil Company as the office manager for 25 years. He went on to work for the State of Minnesota, working for Governor Rudy Perpich before ending his career working for Birdseye in Waseca. His passion for the outdoors never vanished. He loved going fishing, taking long walks and was avid sports fan. Leon was a caring man with a great sense of humor.
Leon is survived by his children: Lee (Christy) Mullerleile and Lisa (Chris) Schlueter; sister, Carol Vogelsberg; grandchildren: Tyler (Ellie) Kiekenapp, Courtney (Lucas) Johnson, Breahna (Alex) Grant, Ryley Glassmaker, Miley Mullerleile, Isabel Weller, Annmarie Weller, Brittney (Dillan) Schultz, Tiffany Schlueter, Dan Schlueter, and Dave Schlueter; great grandchildren: Chevy, Melody and Ryott; sister-in-law, Ann Mullerleile; brother-in-law, Arlan Malling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LeRoy Mullerleile; sister, Janette Malling; brother-in-law, Richard Vogelsberg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at the Divine Mercy Chapel at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Interment will be on a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
