It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leon Calvin Perry, who departed this life on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Kansas City, KS, on May 31, 1944, Leon lived a life full of passion, purpose, and an unwavering love for the outdoors.
Leon spent thirty-three years in educational leadership. During his tenure as a Principal, Leon was known for his compassionate leadership, integrity and relentless pursuit of excellence in education.
A true sportsman at heart, Leon found joy and peace in the quiet of the woods and along the banks of his favorite fishing spots. Whether it was a crisp fall morning in a deer stand or a summer afternoon casting a line on the river, he felt most at home surrounded by nature. Friends and family often recall his stories from the field- some factual, some fanciful- but all shared with a sparkle in his eyes and a deep appreciation for the memories made.
Beyond the hunt and the catch, Leon was a devoted husband, proud father, and someone who could always be counted on for a laugh, a helping hand, or a campfire meal that somehow tasted better than any five-star restaurant.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a lifetime of cherished adventures in the wild. While he may have laid down the rod and rifle, his spirit will forever echo in the rustling leaves, the call of a loon, and the gentle ripple of a calm river at dawn.
Leon married Carol Ann Elliott on June 10, 1972 in rural Webb City, MO at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist. They were blessed with two children and fifty-three years of wonderful memories made together.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; his son, Ty Perry and wife Christen, of Monett; his daughter, LeAnn Perry, of Lee's Summit, MO; one grandson, Lincoln Perry, Monett; and his mother-in-law, Jewell Elliott, of Carthage, MO; as well as a host of friends, and countless students and colleagues that will miss him dearly.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Ancel and Marguerite Perry; and one granddaughter, Amelia Grace Perry.
Leon was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025 with David Bycroft officiating. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to the Missouri Disabled Sportsmen in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
