Leon Powell Obituary
He was born December 24, 1943 in Stoddard County, MO, son of the late Vernon Powell and Audy Pitts-Powell.
Leon was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church of Puxico, a 1961 graduate from Sikeston High School, a 3-year veteran of the U.S. Army, and he had worked for Millright/Noranda Aluminum before retiring. He had a passion for Jesus and a great desire to serve God; he loved his life and his family to the fullest.
On April 3, 1965 in Kansas City, MO he was married to Edna Fay Johnson-Powell; she survives of the home.
Other survivors include one son, Patrick Wayne (Janet) Powell of Dexter, MO; one daughter, Lisa (Britt) McConnell of Sikeston, MO; one brother, Larry Powell of Cape Girardeau, MO; two sisters, Donna Bevill and Joyce Lambert both of Ocala, FL; four grandchildren, Stephen (Samantha) Powell, Andrew Powell, Betsy Anne McConnell, and Virginia McConnell; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews that he held dear in his heart.
In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Powell and baby Vernon Powell, Jr.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 21, from 12:00 noon until time of funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home with full military honors. Larry Tucker will be officiating the services.
Burial will be at a later date at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO.
