It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leon Charles Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on December 7, 1937, in Elton, Louisiana, Leon lived a life marked by love, laughter, and an enduring commitment to his family and community.
Leon was a dedicated insulator for Turner Industries for many years. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. His spirit of generosity was matched only by his delightful sense of humor; he had a knack for lightening the mood and bringing smiles to the faces of those around him. A loving and caring man, he cherished the moments spent in the company of his family, whether they were sharing stories, enjoying a meal, or cheering for his favorite teams-the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints.
Leon had a fondness for RC Cola and Moon Pies, simple pleasures that encapsulated his joyful spirit. He leaves behind countless memories and a legacy of love that will resonate throughout his family for generations to come. He also served proudly in the United States as an Airman in the Navy.
Leon is survived by his devoted daughter, Carla (Chiggy) Miller, his beloved granddaughters Loryn (Adam) LeDoux and Sandy Miller, and his cherished great-granddaughter Gracie Smith and honorary daughter, Sandra Miller. He also leaves behind his dear brother, Melvin Smith, as well as sisters-in-law Thelma Boutin and Myrtis Abraham; his loving caring companion and best friend, Elnora Montou; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday September 14, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, LA. A Rosary will begin at 6:30 PM, in the funeral home chapel. Visitation will resume on Monday September 15, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM with his nephew, Derrin Benoit officiating.
He will be laid to rest in Bluff Cemetery in Evangeline, Louisiana, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
As we gather to celebrate Leon's life, let us remember him as a loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a friend who brought laughter and warmth to our lives. He will be dearly missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and John Smith; his beloved wife, Margery Smith; brother, John Arnold Smith; and many in laws who have gone before him, Nelarine Benoit, Tommy Benoit, Ray Abraham, Betty Abraham, Fred Boutin, Maisie Gotte, Richard Gotte, Marlene Smith, Jimmy Smith.
