Leon Ranson "Bud" Upwright

Leon Ranson Upwright, affectionately known as "Bud," age 80, of Middleway, West Virginia, passed away at his home on November 19, 2025.

Born on March 25, 1945, in Leetown, West Virginia, Bud was the son of the late Leon Upwright and Estelle Upwright.

He attended Charles Town High School and graduated from Abraham Lincoln College Preparatory in Philadelphia. He continued his education at Temple University.

Bud retired from Loudoun County Government in 2012 after 25 years of dedicated service, where he held the position of Code Enforcement Manager.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching westerns, and the country life. Bud took great pride in building his own home and crafting beautiful items such as bookcases, desks, and grandfather clocks.

He will be remembered for his big personality and wit.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Upwright and brother, Gary Lee Upwright.

He is survived by his sister, Olivia "Doll" Haley and partner Gary Stanley of Odenton, Maryland; daughter, Kimberly Sims, and son-in-law, Randy Sims, of Front Royal, Virginia; his son, Andrew Upwright, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Middleton of Middleway, West Virginia; his granddaughter, Lauren Sims; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.
