Leon Joseph Zukowski Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leon Zukowski, Jr., age 78, who left us on November 5, 2025.
Leon was born on January 8, 1947, as the second of six children of Leon and Leocadia Zukowski. Growing up in a loving household, Leon was influenced by his parents' strong work ethic and dedication to family values. They instilled in him the importance of education, kindness, and community support.
Leon is survived by his brothers, Mark (Jaime) and Cris (Eileen Counihan) and sisters, Conni (Steve) Andrews and Debbi (Kent) Smith. He also leaves behind a loving extended family, including nephews Daniel Zukowski, Thomas (Kirsten Rommel) Zukowski and their children Cal and Mia, and niece Nicole Smith and her husband Daniel Timmons. They cherished their time with him. Leon held family traditions in high esteem, never missing an opportunity to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and milestones with thoughtful gifts and heartfelt greetings.
Leon began his career in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a Russian language specialist and radio intercept during the Vietnam War.
Leon held a Master's Degree in Sociology from York University, Toronto. He taught Sociology at the College of the Bahamas. It was here that he met the love of his life, Sharron Lightbourne.
Leon spent his later years in South Florida. There, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a Mail Carrier. He retired in Delray Beach.
Leon will be interred at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. This is the final resting place of his beloved parents, Leon and Leocadia, and his older brother, Eric.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
