Leonard Francis Asbury of Haltom City passed away at the age of 70 on June 20, 2023 in North Richland Hills, Texas. He was born September 21,1952 in Fresno, California, the eldest of five children born to Francis and Darlene Asbury.
Leonard was drafted into the United States Army in 1972 and served until 1976 as a "Computer Guy". He rejoined and served again from 1981 to 1991 as a Signals Intelligence Analyst. He attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, California, and following his military service, Merced College in Merced, California. Building radios and working with electronics since the age of nine, he fulfilled a childhood dream by working as a Quality Systems Engineer with Motorola when he moved to Texas in 1999.
Len was highly intelligent and strong willed. He was also a tender-hearted man who lovingly tended his "old garden" roses and spent many happy hours petting his cats. An avid audiophile, Len had a taste for jazz, Frank Zappa, and 1970's Japanese Rock Music. He enjoyed building computers and stereo equipment. He was known for being good with his hands, as he could fix almost anything. Most importantly, Leonard was a savvy shopper with a keen eye for quality and value in clothing, housewares, construction and art.
Leonard is survived by his wife Barbara, whom he married on December 17, 2003, as well as his daughter Creation Desautels, and son Justice Asbury.

Lenny and I worked together in California in the late 90's. We became casual friends towards the end of our time working together - I always wished I had gotten to know him better. Ferociously intelligent man whose depth and breadth of knowledge and know-how never ceased to impress. I intend to pay my respects to Lenny in person next time I am in the DFW area. The last time I was with Lenny, he gave me a painting done by his first wife as a goodbye-for-now gift that still hangs in my house.

The short time I knew Lenny, all the memories I accumulated I will cherish. Len was a character who could have you laughing so hard. All the music we listened to. At the time he was all into Bjork and building computers. And the man could cook. Running down to the Asian markets to get ingredients was a Saturday afternoon well spent. Barbara, thank you for loving and caring about this intelligent, but complicated man. Nan

Barbara, what can I say? As I sit on the floor in my living room, I find myself at a loss for words. We never have enough time... And it goes so quickly. I'm sorting through scores of old photos, Jerry Garcia & Hermes neckties, and every vinyl album and CD Len gave to me, I can't seem to sum-up how Len was so successful in touching my life, and the lives of so many others during the 43 years I was his friend.

I'll just let Ralph Waldo Emerson say it for me:

"To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Leonard, I loved you like a Brother from a different mother... You'll be sorely missed. Godspeed!
