Leonard Joseph Bomkamp, 93, of
Carlinville, IL, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 4, 2026, at the home of his daughter in
Mt. Olive, IL.
Leonard was born on October 28, 1932, to Joseph and Regina (Schaefer) Bomkamp of
Carlinville, Il. He graduated from Carlinville High School in June 1950 and enlisted in the Air Force National Guard in January 1951. After serving in the National Guard, for three years, Leonard worked at Konneker-Brown for three years. In January 1955, he went to Chicago and enrolled at DeVry Tech, graduating in March 1957. He then accepted a job with Convair Aircraft Company in Ft. Worth, Texas.
In November 1957, Leonard married Susan Breen in
Ft. Worth, TX. In 1960 he accepted a job with Texas Instruments in
Dallas, TX. He remained there until September 1970. During this time, Leonard and Susan had eight children.
Leonard and his family moved to
Duncan, OK in December 1970 and opened B & B Magnavox, an electronics home entertainment store. Leonard owned and operated B & B Magnavox until 1994 when he retired and moved back to Carlinville. Susan and Leonard had divorced in 1982. During his retirement, Leonard worked doing lawn care for Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church until 2013. In November 1997, Leonard married Dorothy Varner.
Leonard enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He also enjoyed reading and playing cards.
Leonard is survived by his wife: Dorothy, and six sons: Daniel of Carlinville, Patrick (Beth) of Evansville, IN, Jeffrey (Beth) of Huntsville, AL, Michael (Stacy) of Savannah, GA, Robert of
Ft. Worth, TX, Thomas (Elizabeth) of Fate, TX, two daughters: Mary (Bill) Leyrer of
Duncan, OK, Rebecca (Carlos) Munguia of Chicago, IL, two step-children: Keith (Carolyn) Bomkamp of Wood River, IL and Camelia Bomkamp of
Mt. Olive, IL, thirty-five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Leonard also leaves behind brothers: Dick and Norman (Judy), sisters Rita (George) Cerar, and Joann Richey, and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Rosina Kasten, William and Paul Bomkamp, brother-in-law Sonny Richey, and sister-in-law Cathy Bomkamp.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home from 4-7 pm with prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church,
Carlinville, IL, at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Reverend Joseph Koyickal, S.A.C., presider.
Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery,
Carlinville, IL.
