Leonard George Evans, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a retired employee of Raytheon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was 93 years old.
Len was born in
Donora, Pennsylvania, one of four children born to Michael and Elizabeth Evans. He grew up in Clairton, Pennsylvania, and was a proud graduate of Clairton High School. At the age of 19, Len enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve during the Korean War. He served honorably for four years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant as a member of the 5th Supply Squadron at Travis Air Force Base in California. He was especially proud of the time he was stationed on the island of Guam. He was discharged on June 13, 1956 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal in recognition of his faithful service.
Len met the love of his life, Claire Joyal, at a USO dance. They were married in 1958 and just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. In 1959, Len and Claire settled in Burlington where they raised six children together. Len spent the majority of his professional career at Raytheon, serving as a Quality Control Manager on a wide variety of projects, including missile systems. He took great pride in his work and in being a strong and dependable provider for his family.
Above all else, Len was a family man. Raising and providing for six children was no small task, yet he embraced it with unwavering responsibility, dedication, and love. He was hardworking, driven, and immensely proud of his family. Len had a dry sense of humor and was known for being organized to a fault and for doing things the right way. He was a talented and accomplished artist, who enjoyed oil painting. He found joy in working around his home, fixing anything that needed attention, and carefully tending to his yard. Len had an excellent eye for creating beautiful gardens. Everything about the yard was meticulous. People often stopped to compliment him on the landscaping and lawn.
Len enjoyed fishing at Horn Pond, cooking Sunday morning breakfast with his famous potatoes made in his special cast iron skillet and bringing coffee to his wife every morning as she woke up. During retirement, Len and Claire enjoyed many trips to Maine. In addition, they traveled to Bermuda, Europe, Hawaii, Arizona and New Mexico. There were many family vacations to Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. These were the moments that brought him the greatest happiness-time spent together, building memories that would last a lifetime.
Len always did "the right thing." He consistently placed his family's needs above his own, modeling integrity, responsibility, and strength. He provided not only for his children's material needs, but always offered firm guidance, and a steady presence they could always rely upon. He was always there when his children needed him. He worked tirelessly to give his children opportunities he did not have growing up.
Len's greatest legacy is his family. What began on a dance floor blossomed into a beautiful life together-six children, their marriages, and the joyful arrival of fourteen grandchildren. These were the accomplishments of which he was most proud. His life was defined by hard work, devotion to family, steadfast commitment, and the enduring example he set for his children and grandchildren.
Len was the beloved husband of Claire (Joyal) Evans. He was the proud father of Theresa Evans O'Keeffe & her husband Mark of Tyngsboro, Leonard Evans & his wife Maura of Oro Valley, AZ, Elizabeth Burr of Wilmington, Joseph Evans & his wife Linda of Winthrop, Amy Abbott & her husband Thomas of Woburn, and James Evans of Newtown Square, PA. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael Evans, Patricia Kich, and Vincent Evans. He was the proud grandfather of Michael O'Keeffe, Ryan O'Keeffe, Rebecca O'Keeffe, Alexander Evans, Nicholas Evans, Thomas Burr, Alexa Burr, Tori Burr, Jeffrey Abbott, Molly Abbott, Andrew Abbott, Sophia Evans, Vivienne Evans and Aster Evans. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn Street, Burlington on Saturday, February 21 at Noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Len's name may be made to
