Leonard A. Probst, 80, died April 19, 2024, at Wheatlands in Kingman. Leonard was born on June 21, 1943, in Kingman County. He was the second son of William J. and Dorothy (Pelzl) Probst. After graduating from Kingman High School in 1961, Leonard worked the night shift in Hutchinson at Cessna Aircraft. He then shifted to the Cessna plant in Wichita where he worked for a total of 10 years. Leonard worked for several farmers before farming with his dad and brother Tony, and then on his own. He retired from farming in 2017. Leonard had mechanical skills that were useful on the farm. For several years he was a member of the Hoosier county road commission, serving as treasurer. He was an avid NASCAR fan, seldom missing a Sunday race on TV. He also kept abreast of advances in automotive technology and the latest truck and car models by watching Motorweek.
Leonard was a quiet man, deeply committed to his Catholic faith. Since his retirement he spent an hour and a half in prayer every morning. When his mother was no longer able to drive to her prayer hour before the Blessed Sacrament at St. Patrick's, Leonard took her. When she left Kingman, Leonard kept that hour for over 25 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Even though he did not attend monthly meetings, he volunteered to help when needed.
Leonard is survived by his brothers: Tony, South Hutchinson, and Jim (Bonnie), Wichita; his sisters: Sister LeAnn, Great Bend, Marilyn Pendergraft, Wichita, Patricia (Max) Lett, LaMesa, NM, Deb (Randy) Kaufman, Hoxie, Eileen Lohmeyer, Henderson, NV, and numerous nephews and nieces, and great nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Probst, his brothers Richard and Bill, his sister Jeanne McNeff, and his brother-in-law Mike Lohmeyer.
Leonard's family wishes to thank the staff at Wheatlands, Rivercross Hospice, and Father Walsh for their care and concern.
Parish rosary will be 10:00 a.m, Friday, May 3, 2024 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kingman with a memorial Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. Committal services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cunningham.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Wheatlands Healthcare Center in care of the Livingston Funeral Home. Leonard chose cremation.
