Leonard Raffeo Obituary

Leonard C. Raffeo passed away on February 27, 2022 surrounded by his family at his residence. He was 95 years old. Born in Norristown, PA June 7, 1926, Leonard attended Norristown High School and Ben Franklin High School, where he graduated in 1946. Leonard born to the late Accursio and Antonina (Ingrasciotta) Raffeo was one of 11 children. Leonard loved his country. At the very young age of 18, he enlisted in World War 11 from 1944-1946. He was awarded many medals for his service; The Purple Heart, World War 11 Victory Medal, Two Battle Stars, French Groixde Guerre Unit Citation, Presidential Unit Citation, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), American Campaign Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Man’s Badge. Leonard was the last survivor member of the Catholic War Veterans. Leonard, as the butcher, with his brothers, opened “The Collegeville Super Market” in 1951, the first super market in Collegeville. Leonard loved and was admired by all his customers. He treated them like his family. Until the day of his passing, he remembered their names and favorite meats they enjoyed on their dinner table. Leonard was considered an amazing and brilliant man from those who knew him. His skills as a butcher from 1951-1972 and knowledge of his products was appreciated by all. In 1952, Leonard married his love, Angeline (Falco). They shared 59 years together until her passing in 2011. Leonard and Angeline cherished their children, Augustus (Gus) and Charlene and shared many memorable years with them. In 2014, Leonard was blessed to find and marry Barbara (Kanas), a loving woman and companion. Barbara has three children who loved Leonard as if he was their own father. They shared their life together until Leonard’s passing. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Accursio and Antonina (Ingrasciotta); son Augustus, wife Angeline (Falco), and siblings, Mary (Leonard) Ingrasciotta, Joseph (Ann) Genuardi, Mary (Mackie) Varone, Eva (Salvatore) Cascio, Paul (Mary) Russo, John (Mary) Raffeo, Lena (Anthony) Nacarrelli, Catherine (Samuel) Solomone, Sue (Charles) Storti. Leonard is survived by his wife Barbara (Kanas), daughter Charlene (Greco), son in-law, Harry, two granddaughters, Brittany and Ashley, and brother, Vincent. Leonard’s first priority and love was for his family. He enjoyed them and smiled the whole time they were together. Whether it was a holiday, an occasion, or just a simple week night dinner. His second love was a tie between the game of golf and his love of music. His enjoyment for being on the golf course was not whether he won or lost the game, but being with his friends and making new friends, coming home and telling his family all about his day and who he had met. Leonard loved listening to music and playing his organ. Some nights, as we were clearing the dinner table, Leonard would serenade us with song and playing the organ. My brother and I were raised with very caring, loving, parents. They taught us to always be respectable and hope to get respect back in return. This is an important lesson for all of us to live by. Relatives and friends invited to his viewing Tuesday March 8th starting at 9:30 AM followed by Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at Visitation BVM Catholic Church 196 N. Trooper Road, Norristown. Entombment Limerick Garden of Memories. My mother was a resident of Elm Terrace Gardens (ETG) for 9 years until her passing in 2020. Over those years I got to know Len, we clicked and became friends. How many people can say they had a new ~ 90-year-old friend? That is what made him special. I enjoyed his company whenever we met in the hallways or dining room. He brightened my day whenever I visited ETG. I didn't know he had obtained so many medals while serving our country in WWII. My respect for him is even greater. My condolences to the
entire Raffeo family. Rest in peace Len, till we meet again.
