It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Vaughn Steving, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Len was born in Latrobe, PA in 1946 to Paul E. Steving and Marjorie E. Turner Steving.
He graduated in 1964 from West High in Cleveland, OH. Len was drafted into the Army in January of 1966 and served as a combat engineer with a tour of duty in Vietnam from September 1966 to September 1967, being awarded The Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He was very proud to have served his country and achieved the rank of Specialist Fourth Class.
Len is survived by Susan Dooley-Steving, his loving wife of 35 years. They married in Toledo, OH in 1989. Len always remarked that meeting Susan was the single luckiest moment of his life!
Other survivors include his children from a previous marriage, a daughter, Dawn M. DeBruyn (Luc) of Tremelo, Belgium; a son, Marc L. Steving (Cheryl) of Pickerington, OH; six grandchildren, Lauren, Courtney, Mitchell, Kyle, Keara, and Jacob; and one great-grandchild, Landon; brothers, Wayne Steving of Orlando, FL and Paul Steving of Twinsburg, OH; and his sister, Katherine Steving of Lakewood, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Grace Steving in 2016.
Hard work was something that Len felt was important and his 17 years as a UPS driver and human resource supervisor were the happiest of his working days and where he met the love of his life, Susan. He later worked as a blender operator at the Toledo BP Refinery, where he retired after 20 years of service.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast Chapel in
Simpsonville, SC. A reception will follow the service.
His final resting place will be at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC, where his urn will be placed on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
