Leonard Yates passed away at home in his sleep on June 23, 2022 after a 5-7 year decline with Frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
He was the youngest son of Henry and Gretel Yates and younger brother of Henry Carl Yates, all predeceased. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Eugenie. He was uncle to many loved nephews and nieces and godfather to two great godchildren, Jessica and Paulie.
Lenny was career military, retired, and served in the Army in Korea during the Vietnam Era war. He later served with the 82nd Airborne at
Ft Bragg, NC. Then as a full time NY National Guard sergeant he served with the 69th Infantry (the Fighting Irish) and later with an engineering and military battalions. He finished his career with the NY Governors Band and retired from active duty in February 2002.
He loved all music, including opera, and dragged his wife to many operas at Lincoln Center. He also enjoyed visiting museums, fishing, camping, hiking, golf, traveling, sitting and joking around with friends and recreational painting.
Lenny also loved living in Bethel since 1988 and enjoyed walking and hiking around Bethel.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2022, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM with a service of remembrance at 2:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the ctftdfoundation.org or the CT Humane Foundation as Lenny loved cats and dogs.
