Leonard A. Zalauskas, 86 of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at home.
Leonard was born in Worcester, a son of the late Anthony and Tophelia (Goodlight) Zalauskas. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Class of 1957 and has lived in Worcester all his life. Leonard worked as a meat cutter for various establishments including Fairway Beef, Argento’s, D’Errico’s Market and Stop & Shop before retiring in 2009.
Leonard was a very gentle, kind and giving human being who loved people, socializing and was very stylish. In his spare time, he enjoyed horse racing, occasional trips to the casino, cleaning his car, gardening and tending to his yard (something he was very proud of), traveling, and spending time with family and friends especially on holidays and special occasions. Leonard was known throughout his neighborhood as the honorary mayor and was a friend of Bill since 1970.
Leonard is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela (Giangrande) Zalauskas; their six children, Ellen Tawczynski and her husband Ted of Holden, Paul DeLaney and his wife Lisa of Milford, Maura Johnson and her husband Kirk of Worcester, Leonard Zalauskas and his wife Gina of Worcester, Michelle Brosnahan of Eastham and Bernadette Peloquin and her husband Dan of Worcester; twelve grandchildren, Peter, Carl, Corey, Shelly, Beth, Lenny, Alyx, Zachary, Adam, Reilly, Paul and Collin; eleven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Besides his parents, Leonard was predeceased by a brother, Donald Zalauskas and two sisters, Dorothy and Madeline Virbasius.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday, November 23, 2025 from 3-6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. His funeral Mass will be on Monday, November 24th at 11:30 am in St. Bernard’s Church at Our Lady of Providence Parish, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making donations to: Bucky’s Food Pantry, c/o St. Bernard’s Church, 236 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA. 01605
