Leonor "Nonis" Borroel, a beacon of love and faith, completed her earthly journey on August 24, 2025, in
Modesto, California, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and joy that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Born on March 7, 1957, in Laredo, Texas, to the devoted Enrique and Aurora Mata, Nonis was a cherished sister to Diana, Emilia, Maria, Enrique Jr., Gilbert, Raul, and Armando. Her radiant spirit was a guiding light for her beloved daughters, Irene Pulgrin, Lorraine Aguirre, and Monica Borroel, as well as her adored grandchildren, Eli, Jacinda, Eddie, Marcos, and Jaila, who will forever treasure the warmth of her embrace.
Nonis's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her faith and an enduring passion for serving others. She attended Overfelt High School in San Jose, California, where she laid the foundation for a life of purpose and dedication. Throughout her varied career, she found her greatest joy while surrounded by the beauty of blossoms at her favorite job in a flower shop in Fresno, California. This role was a perfect reflection of her nature-nurturing, vibrant, and full of life.
Her walk with Christ was the cornerstone of her existence, and she dedicated herself to being His hands and feet in the world. Nonis was an active member of her church community, where her love for dancing to the rhythm of grace, crafting jewelry that mirrored the beauty of creation, and participating in church activities were sources of immense joy and fellowship.
Nonis's life was a testament to the virtues of love, kindness, and faith. She approached each day with a heart wide open, ready to pour out love in abundance. Her kindness was her signature, touching lives in quiet yet profound ways. A woman of deep faith, Nonis trusted in the Lord with all her heart, leaning not on her own understanding, and in all her ways, she acknowledged Him, and He made her paths straight.
The words that best encapsulate Nonis's essence are loving, kind, and faith-filled. She was a living example of the fruits of the Spirit-love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Her life was a sermon of love, preached not from a pulpit but through every action, every smile, every word of encouragement.
To her family, Nonis was a pillar of strength and a reservoir of wisdom. To her friends, she was a constant source of comfort and joy. To all, she was a reminder of the beauty that life holds when lived with purpose and love. As we celebrate Nonis's victorious homecoming, we are encouraged to emulate her example, shining our light in the darkness and spreading love wherever we go.
Leonor "Nonis" Borroel's story does not end with her passing, for her spirit continues to resonate in the lives she touched. We bid her farewell with hearts full of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with her and with a steadfast hope that we will one day be reunited in the eternal dance of joy before our Creator. Until then, we will hold her memory dear, living out the love she so freely gave.
