LeRoy Roland Baumgart, Sr. age 95, Detroit Lakes, MN died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in his residence.
LeRoy was born May 24, 1930, in Pine Lake township in rural Ottertail County. He was drafted into the army on January 23, 1953. He married the love of his life Esther Bergstrom, on October 12, 1955. LeRoy worked at North Star Dairy in Detroit Lakes and later at Mid America Dairy in Fergus Falls. He enjoyed fishing on Toad Lake, but he preferred ice fishing. He also liked to hunt, mostly deer.
LeRoy Roland Baumgart gave and received love every day of his life with the people who knew him, hugs, smiles, and infectious laughter were his golden rules. For 69 years LeRoy shared the best days of his life with his wife Esther. LeRoy married Esther on her 18th birthday. LeRoy and Esther loved each other so deeply, they couldn’t wait one more day. Family came first! They played cards, put puzzles together, and pulled handles on slot machines! LeRoy loved to read, especially Westerns and War Stories. He knew that someday the Twins would make it to the World Series. To LeRoy, there is nothing better than a John Deere tractor! When a fish bit his line, LeRoy would get so excited, the fish would give him a wink as it jumped back into the lake. With LeRoy, the sun shined brighter, the birds chirped sweeter and his love for life as we know it made the earth a better place to be. LeRoy is now sitting on God’s hand while the angels are sewing his wings. Rest peacefully, you earned it. Almost forgot! LeRoy made the best pancakes you will ever taste.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Esther; two sons, LeRoy Jr (Sue) and Tim (Mary); three granddaughters, Jessica, Kimberly, and Crystal; one grandson, Emilio; four great grandchildren, Wyatt, Freya, Reagen, and Sonja; sister in law, JoAnne Baumgart-Kunz; brothers in law, John Bergstrom and David (Lora) Bergstrom; and several nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hedwig Baumgart; one sister, Gladys Estlick; and three brothers, Raymond (Luella), Arland (Dorene), and Wayne.
The family would like to thank HIA Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion the gave to LeRoy and family in their time of need.
Services will be recorded for later viewing.
