Leslie Attebery Obituary

Leslie Wegner Attebery, 80, died peacefully on May 23, 2023, in Glenview, Illinois. She was born and raised in Hinsdale, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Attebery, her parents, Ernie and Ginny Wegner, and her sister, Lynn Davis.

Leslie graduated college from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. After college, Leslie volunteered for the Lawrence Hall School for Boys in Chicago, where she met the love of her life, Jack. The two were married on June 17, 1972, and spent their early married years in Chicago before raising their three children in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Leslie pursued her interests in nature with active involvement in Lake Bluff Open Lands. Later in life, Leslie volunteered for Habitat for Humanity while living in the Florida Keys, and for the White Lake Arts Council while spending summers with her family in Whitehall, Michigan. Leslie also enjoyed playing tennis, traveling the world, and rescuing dogs from shelters.

Leslie was the consummate hostess. She was second mom to many, making her family recipes of "Mac Attack" and freshly picked blueberry pies, as well as countless late-night bowls of homemade popcorn, served with love.

Leslie is survived by her children, Elyce (Dave) Ventura, Clay (Katie) Attebery, and Graham (Darcy) Attebery; her grandchildren, Jackson and Ellie Ventura, Lila and Adele Attebery, and Grady and Avery Attebery; and many friends and extended family.

A private celebration of life will be held. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (ovarian.org).

As a childhood friend of her three kids, Leslie was always so interested in all the people in her home. I remember her great laugh and always thinking there was an adventure around the corner. Send much love, sorry for your loss.

My condolences on the passing of Leslie. She and I were friends and played tennis in Lake Bluff in the 80s. My daughter, Julie, and Elyce were friends in Jr and Sr High. We also socialized with Leslie and Jack and are sorry to learn that he too recently passed away. May they rest together in peace. After they moved from Lake Bluff, we visited them in MI and FL and remember fond times. Decades ago, Leslie brought some dried money tree plants to our house from Michigan. As we weren't home she stuck them in the garage door handle. I still have them in a vase today!!

One of the most gracious couple we met in White Lake Michigan. We were also greeted very warmly in their home in Florida. We will miss their laughter your graciousness. They're great hospitality and good cooking. We will miss Lesley and Jack terribly. They were great party makers, party on gang.

My thoughts and prayers are with you upon learning of Leslie's death. Our relationship goes back to the early 70's when we all lived in the Sandburg Bldg. environs. In 1967 I married and White Lake, MI became my permanent residence. I have many fond memories of the Wegner family, Jack and Leslie, etc.,. Fondly,
