Leslie John "Les" Maxfield

Lesile John Maxfield, 72, of Grantsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on December, 8 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah after a long illness. Born on October 23, 1953 in Salina, Utah, he was the son of the late Rayola Giles and Curtis Maxfield.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school and served honorably for 13 years. He met and married his sweetheart of 51 years, Jane Ruth Sharp, in the LDS Oakland, California Temple on August 22, 1974. They lived in many locations throughout his military service and managed to raise and wrangle 5 children. Even after all that, and forbidding any of them to follow in his footsteps and enlist in the Marine Corps, one son and one granddaughter did it anyway. He probably, on occasion, thought it was awesome. His years of military service were only surpassed by his years of pursuing higher education. He earned several degrees and certificates and was an educator for decades teaching high levels of math and electronics. It still didn't help him with his kid's math homework. Kids just don't listen. Sigh.

Now, Les was many things, but perfect was not one of them. In fact, this one time, he cursed. It was a warm summer day and the kids were outside having an argument. They were yelling back and forth at each other, like kids do. Tossing around the phrase "bull crap!" and the like. Suddenly, the back door swings open and Dad steps out and scolds them, tells them to stop saying "bull crap" because it's no different than saying "bull shit." A collective audible gasp followed. Dad went back inside and the kids were left scraping their jaws off the ground. So, you see, even great men have a dark side.

Les is survived by his wife, Jane and children, David Maxfield (Angela), Jenifer Maxfield Greenwood (Thomas), James Maxfield, Christa Maxfield Turner (Michael) and Jason Maxfield (Chante), 15 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

Interment will take place at The Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah on December 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM, in a small private ceremony.
