Lester Crocker Obituary

Lester Crocker

December 16, 1930 - November 27, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Lester "Les" L. Crocker, Jr. announces his passing on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the age of 94. The family is, however, joyful that he was called home peacefully.

Les proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years and when he retired was a Master Sergeant in charge of the Aviation Maintenance shop. He knew planes inside and out, especially B-29's and C-130's and was responsible for keeping them in the sky. While in the Air Force, Les served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was stationed at many airbases around the world including Antarctica.

After retiring from the Air Force, Les worked as an Industrial Electrician for the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Masonite Corporation in Waverly, VA and Hercules, Inc. in Hopewell, VA, where he retired. He was a member in good standing of the United Steelworkers of America, Local 13061 in Hopewell, VA.

Lester L. Crocker, Jr. spent his life serving his country and working to support his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His most endearing trait was his quick wit; he brightened any mood or situation with just the right touch of humor. His life lessons taught with gentle strength will always be cherished and remembered. He instilled in everyone a great love for family, the USA and its flag, a job well done, and being honest. His firm handshakes for the men and sweet kisses for the ladies will be missed by all.

Les was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen; his brother, Warner (Keg) Crocker; sister, Jean C. Bridgewater; and grandsons, Jason R. Smith and Kevin D. Crocker. He will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Lynda, Brent, Leslie, Bruce, and Laura. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Heather, Jessica, Ginny, Josh, Amanda, Holly, Lee, Heidi, Kristin, Sandra, Lee J., Jami, and Jaycie; and great-grandchildren, Kristoffer, Madelyne, Karson, Tristan, Austin, Liyana, Ashlynn, Gary, Hayley, Kayden, AJ, Khloe, Jackson, Jaxon, Packson, Sadie, Saunder, and Saylor.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA, 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place after the service at Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23836. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colonial Heights Fire & EMS, 100 Highland Avenue #B, Colonial Heights, VA, 23834.
