Lester W. Johnk, 99, of Sabin, MN passed away from a stroke on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, after a brief stay at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.
Lester Wayne Johnk was born November 23, 1924, to Fredrick and Marie (Kuehl) Johnk in Sabin, MN. He attended country school in Sabin through the 8th grade while working on the family farm. He later began farming with his brother, Delmer, growing potatoes, sugar beets, wheat, and various other crops.
On November 14, 1964, Lester married Beverly Drussell in Moorhead, MN. They purchased a small farm south of Sabin and raised two children. After retiring from farming, they moved to Moorhead for a time before returning to the farm. Beverly passed away in 2015, and Lester remained on the farm.
Lester had a remarkable memory, which remained sharp until the end of his life. In addition to farming, Lester had a deep passion for John Deere tractors, gardening, and tending to flowers. He found joy in mowing the lawn and taking leisurely drives to "check the crops", finding satisfaction in the beauty of the land he worked so diligently. Mostly his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Amy (Chris) Rasmussen and Fred (Sondra) Johnk. Lester was also a proud grandfather to Taylor (Steven) Adams, Reid Rasmussen, and Ethan Johnk, and his great-grandson, Owen Adams. His family circle extended to include brother-in-law Bill (Becky) Drussell, sister-in-law Joanne Hardie, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Beverly, and all of his siblings, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN, from 10-11 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00.
Final resting place will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery columbarium.
