Lester J. Lukomski passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Dwight, IL, at the age of 79. Born on March 22, 1946, in Germany, Lester had an adventurous spirit that carried him through a life rich with experiences and love. Lester's journey brought him to the United States in 1952 and later petitioned for naturalization. He grew up in Chicago, graduating from Kelly High School. Lester married Virginia and together, they raised three wonderful children, Michelle, Laura, and Brian, in Tinley Park. Many years later, Lester found love again with Glenna. Together, they welcomed his youngest son, Michael. In 2002, the family moved to Hawaii, a year later in, 2003, Lester and Glenna were married. A proud Army veteran, Lester served his country in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 and continued his commitment to service by re-enlisting as a reserve member. He served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Special Forces Airborne Division, earning a Purple Heart along with several other military honors. His dedication led him to Camp Smith in Hawaii, where he served until 2006. Lester's work ethic extended beyond the military as he built a career at the phone company. Lester's life was a testament to the importance of family. He adored his children and was a doting grandfather to Brett (Morgan) Wiedeman, Melissa (Greg) Struck, Mason Connor, and Olivia Connor. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Bennett and Aubrey Wiedeman. Lester's presence at grandkids' events, dances, sports, holidays, and birthdays was a source of happiness for him and a treasure for his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Tadeusz and Michalina (Witkowska) Lukomski, and his wife, Glenna, in 2021. Lester's legacy is carried on by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and numerous in-laws who all experienced the warmth of his generous spirit. A visitation for Lester will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris. Lester will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood along with his wife Glenna, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 11:00 am, with military honors. An online guestbook has been made for the family, where you may sign the guestbook, share memories and photographs. You can access this by visiting the website at www.ucdaviscallahan.com.
