All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and celebrate a life well lived. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Chalk Butte one-room school in Sioux County before graduating from Torrington High School. On November 28, 1964, he married Shirley Ann Schreiner. Lester and Shirley built a life quietly centered on family, hard work, and Christ's teachings. He provided for his family first by being a grounds keeper for several golf courses and then settled into a job as a machinist in Lyman, Nebraska; a place where his steady presence and career lasted through more company name changes than he could count. Above all else, Lester cherished time with family and in nature. He enjoyed working with his hands through woodworking, fishing, gardening-his roses were a source of pride, and bird watching. He was happiest when spending time with children. He tucked his children in with a final statement of "love you more,", and spent hours playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would always welcome a quick trip to Deadwood. In his later years, his constant companion became Captain, his son's dog, which he happily acted as a personal trainer for while his son was at work. He was a quiet man noted for his adaptability and fierce competitiveness, including the occasional unapologetic rule-bending, in dominoes or other card games. He was a kind man known for his gentleness, selflessness, and patience. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, his three older brothers, Bob, Walter, and Duane, and sister Betty. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Aaron and Andrea (m. Bob Zehentner), grandchildren Andrielle (James), Andrew, Claire and Sophia, his great-grandchildren Levi and Gabriel, and his younger brothers Neal and Dale and many extended family and church family members who will miss him dearly. Lester has joined his Savior and family in Heaven. He will be there to greet those he loved with a hug, and he may even share a word or too.
