Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home, Inc. - Rochester on Jan. 2, 2026.
Leticia Quijano Shelling, Age 90, presently of Rochester, NY and longtime resident of Sayre, Pa, passed away on December 29th, 2025 in Rochester, NY.

A celebration of life will be held at Sayre VFW (932 W Lockhart St, Sayre, Pa 18840) on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Please join us to share memories and your favorite stories of Letty while sharing a meal and the company of friends.

Lettie was born in Manila, Philippines where she grew up on Clark Airforce Base. She attended St. Lukes College of Nursing and was eventually recruited by the United States Government to provide Nursing care at Rosebud Hospital on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. It was here she met her future husband, Dr. Richard Shelling. After stops in New York and Philadelphia, they eventually settled in the small village of Sayre, Pa. They built their life here, raising three sons and participating in all the things that make small town living, small town living. This included helping out at the schools as a school nurse, working bingo nights, and chauffeuring her kids around to their various sporting activities. She was a devout Catholic, and member of Epiphany Parish in the time she resided in the Valley. She loved to tell stories from her past adventures and of her grandchildren, all of whom she was extremely proud. She was an incredible cook, and boasted of never using a recipe when asked, but possessed a voluminous amount of cookbooks. She loved to garden and travel, often having a large variety of plants and flowers throughout the house, inside and out.

Lettie is survived by her sons Ed, Eric (Rhosse), and Eugene (Suzanne). Grandchildren Ethan, Jack, Grace, and Anna. Her sisters Isabelita Esparas and Flora Espinosa, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Richard, mother Isabel, and siblings Tim, Tony, Aurora, Lily, Bert, Oscar, and Ramon.
