Letitia Richardson Obituary

Published by Claire Brothers Funeral Home - Houston from Aug. 28 to Aug. 29, 2016.
Letitia "Tish" Phillips Richardson met her Savior face to face on August 24th at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Tish was born in Port Arthur, Texas on January 20, 1938 to Kermit "Gee" and Marguerite "Bee" Phillips. She grew up in Nederland, Texas with her younger brother, Jerry, and spent summers on her grandparents' farm in Louisiana.

She graduated from Lamar University where she met the love of her life, Walt "Chico" Richardson. They married on May 31, 1963 while he was on a short leave from serving in the Army. They honeymooned as they drove back to Virginia where he was stationed.

Married for 53 years, Chico and Tish raised two daughters, Cyndi and Traci, in the Houston and Spring area. Tish was the rock of her family…she was a great listener, question--asker, advice giver, and incredible cook. She was absolutely devoted to her family and always available to help and support them.

Tish was a retired elementary school teacher and taught 4th and 5th graders in the Cy--Fair school district for 20 years. She loved working with students and continued to be involved in public education even after she retired.

Besides being a wife and mother, her most cherished role was "Bee Bee" to her four grandchildren, Cody, Callie, Ty, and Lindsey. She was always very involved in their lives and loved watching and supporting them in their many activities.

Her strong faith in Jesus Christ gave Tish great strength, peace and joy throughout her life and sustained her through open--heart surgery six years ago and breast cancer three years ago. She faithfully prayed for her family and always had a positive word of encouragement and hope.

Tish was an avid reader and could most often be found reading a good mystery in her favorite chair. She was warm and friendly, caring and compassionate, and always eager to help. She is already greatly missed by her family and close friends.

We will Celebrate Tish's Life on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Houston Northwest Church located at 19911 State Hwy 249 – Houston, TX 77070. Visitation at 9:00 am and Service at 10:00 am. Tish's desire was for this to be a casual and joyful time (no suit and tie), so we want to honor her request.

Her surviving family members include:
Husband of 53 years: Chico Richardson
Daughters and their husbands: Cyndi & Mark Lawton, Traci & Curtis Samford
Grandchildren: Cody Samford, Callie & Drew Clayton, Ty & Kaylee Samford, Lindsey Lawton
In--Laws: Jerry & Gayle Richardson and Jean Phillips
Nieces and Nephews: Dana, Rusty, Suzy, and Kurt and their spouses and children

Having y'all as neighbors raised the bar. I always got exited when Tish "made too much" and I had the pleasure of enjoying her cooking. She always offered kind words and support that I hold dear. Chico, you as well were such a great comfort to our family. I pray God comforts you and your family now. Love to you all.

Bo and I have so many memories of Tish and Chico from Langwood Baptist Church - all of them good! I remember how Tish always asked leading questions (teacher that she was) to get you to tell her how you were really doing, and I remember her ready smile and her laugh. I also remember some shenanigans during 42 games, a tacky party or two, Harvest Carnivals and those church fellowships our parents enjoyed so much.

We grieve with you in the loss of her presence here, yet rejoice in the knowledge that one day, we will join her (and both my parents) in the presence of our Father. Praying for you guys: Chico, Cyndi and Traci and your families, and sending hugs!

Much love,

Russ & Jac Rickmanm
