Lewis “Wayne” Ellis, 82, of Weatherford, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday evening, March 24, 2018.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at South Main Church of Christ, 201 S. Main Street in Weatherford. Burial will be held at Memory Gardens, west of Weatherford. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, March 28, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford.
Wayne was born September 14, 1935, in Clarendon, Texas. He married Tommie Harris on July 6, 1956, and together had four children. He was a resident of Parker County for over 70 years. Wayne was a proud member of the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse for 40 years and a member of the Church of Christ. He taught High School Vocational Agriculture for 16 years and owned several companies, including Ellis Equipment for 25 years. Wayne farmed and ranched in Parker County for over 50 years. He had many other business adventures, but ranching was his favorite. He enjoyed the fellowship of hunting trips in Colorado.
Most of all, Wayne cherished time spent with his family. He loved listening to his family telling stories and laughing together.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 61 years, Tommie; his children, Rusty (Pam) Ellis, Randy (Alicia) Ellis, Pam (Ellis) Lewellyn and Michael (Courtney) Ellis; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his brother, Milford (Minda ) Meadows; and brother-in-law, Charles Sandlin.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Veanna Ellis, and by his sisters, Mary Jean Sandlin and Elsie Dobbs.
