Lewis Entz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Family Mortuary - Alamosa on Dec. 15, 2025.
Lewis Henry Entz, a devoted family man, proud veteran, and dedicated public servant, departed this life on December 10, 2025, at the Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake in Monte Vista, Colorado. Born to Peter Aaron Entz and Isadora Willimeta Wilkinson Entz on September 7, 1931, Lewis's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to service, his innovative spirit, and his love for the great outdoors.

Lewis's early years were spent surrounded by a large, loving family. Though he outlived many of his kin, including his beloved first wife, Lora Jean Chambers Entz, two cherished grandchildren, Kristopher and Brooke Entz, his parents, and ten siblings, his light never dimmed. The legacy he leaves behind is rich with love and memories, especially shared with his devoted wife Kathryn "Kitty" Bigley Entz of Hooper and his children Cynthia (Ronald) Chapman, Michael (Rhonda) Entz, Cassandra Curtis, and Catherine (James) Wright. His grandchildren Jared (Ceci Rodriguez) Myers, Amanda Myers, Brynna (Aaron) Jones, Sarah (Art Martinez) Wright, and Emily (Leroy Romero) Wright, eight great-grandchildren, and his grand dogs Molly and Tilly, along with his sister Vivian Snow, and a tapestry of nieces, nephews, and cousins will forever cherish his wisdom, generosity, and infectious passion for life.

Lewis served his country with honor as a Marine during the Korean War, developing a lifelong loyalty to his fellow veterans. Post-service, he returned to his roots, becoming a respected Potato and Barley Farmer wherein he expressed his ingenuity through inventions that enhanced farming methods. The initiatives and improvements he made, including the design of a 4-row potato digger and a harvester, demonstrated his inventive mind and commitment to agricultural advancement.

His passion was not confined to farming; Lewis loved the tranquility of fishing and the thrill of the hunt. His fishing trips to Santa Maria reservoir with fellow veterans were sources of great joy and camaraderie. Lewis's dynamic involvement within his community included substantial contributions to the Homelake Veterans Center and ensuring the preservation of military history for future generations. He was instrumental in the displays at Homelake of the Military Tank, A7, Military Ambulance, and World War II Memorial, to name a few.

Lewis's role as a public official further exemplified his dedication to his community. He made significant contributions to the San Luis Valley as a Colorado House Representative and later as a Senator. His tenure as an Alamosa County Commissioner for 14 years was marked by tireless advocacy and relentless work on numerous committees. Those who worked closely with Lewis admired his ability to get things done and his genuine interest in the well-being of his constituents.

The name of Lewis Henry Entz will be etched in the hearts and minds of those he touched with his wisdom, generosity, and passion. His guidance was a beacon for many, and his robust laughter will echo in the memories of friends and family. Lewis's impact on this world was profound, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire for generations to come.
