Lewis H. Shaffer passed away on June 9, 2025, at home after a prolonged illness. He
has been surrounded by family during this journey. He said he was sad to leave his
family, but once he reached heaven he would see Jesus first, then look for his beloved
brother Roscoe who preceded him in death less than a year ago.
Lewis was the son of Roscoe Shaffer Sr and Geneva (Sams) Shaffer Stevenson. Both
preceded him in death as did his sister, Connie (Mike) Rae, brother Roscoe Jr, step
mother Edith Perkins Shaffer and step father Henry Stevenson.
Lewis and wife, Pam, also lost their son Jon B. Shaffer in 2015.
Lewis began working at Sanger Library at age 16, making $0.55/hr. At 18, he enlisted in
the Ohio Air National Guard. In 1971 he was coming home after working 2 nd shift at AP
Parts, when a drunk driver ran a stop sign and hit Lewis on his motorcycle and left him
nearly dead. Lewis survived but would go on to endure 80+ surgeries and a significant
permanent disability. Within two years, Lewis returned to gainful employment. At age
40, he went to college to become a CT/Radiologic Technologist, which he did until his
retirement in 2000.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pamela Wilson Shaffer. He also has beloved
children, Caroline (George) Chelchowski, Karen (Todd) Hall, Jacqueline (Albert)
Andujar, Robert J Shaffer and Laura Lee Shaffer. Lewis and Pam have grandchildren,
Scott, Joshua and Kathryn Boileau, Jacob and Jessup (Audrey) Hall, Brandon and
Megan Andujar, Caleb, Connor and Carson Welborn, Reese Shaffer and Ian (Kelli),
Amanda and Aaron(Ali) Chelchowski, as well as great grandchildren Leo and Mya
Boileau and several nephews and nieces, especially Jeff, Janna, and Brad Shaffer.
Also surviving are brothers, Nelson (Barb) Shaffer, Bill Shaffer, half-brother Michael
(Cyndee) Stevenson and sister Lois (Mike) Flynn. Also, brothers-in-law Peter (Deb)
Wilson, Jay (Karen) Wilson and sister-in-law Jan Wood.
And we can't forget his best friend, Lucy, an Australian Cattle Dog.
Lewis will be remembered as a very smart and inventive man who could fix anything.
He loved working. He was an avid reader and history buff. While Pam was credited for
things like Girl Scouting, church activities, etc. it wouldn't have been possible without
Lewis behind the scenes.
Lewis always fought for his family's well-being and unity. He was so proud of his 6
children and 14 grandchildren. He was an awesome Grandpa.
He will be missed every day, but he is with his Savior and no longer in pain. A
Celebration of Life will be held at Sylvania First Christian Church on August 2, 2025, at
11:00am. The church is located at 5271 W. Alexis Rd, Sylvania, OH 43560.The family
would like to thank Pastor Ernie Unholz of Sylvania First Christian Church, and
Heartland Hospice, especially Lynn, for their love and supportive services. Also, special
thanks to Michele for her loving care.
Contributions in Lewis' memory can be given to Sylvania First Christian Church or the
charity of choice.

I know we weren't as close later in life as in high school but some times it happens sorry that he had to deal with the injury. I'm glad he is at peace with himself and God. His friend Mike "Tramp" his nickname for me in high school because a bum wouldn't work and I did. With hope in our hearts till we meet again friend.

Uncle Lewis,

Many of my fondest childhood memories were spent at your house and with your family. My deepest sympathy to Pam, all the children and grandchildren.
