Lija Guna Scherer

Lija Guna Scherer, 67, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 14, 2025.

Lija worked for the State of Florida for 30 years, where her friendly nature and problem-solving spirit made her a joy to be around. She was outgoing, kind, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Lija loved animals dearly and found comfort and companionship in caring for them throughout her life. She also had a lifelong love of music and spent many happy years singing in her church choir, where she formed lasting friendships and touched countless hearts with her voice.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Erich Scherer; her daughter, Amber (and husband, Justin) Hendrix; her beloved grandchildren, Brooke Olivia (7), and Brady Banks (2); and her twin sister, Inta (and husband, Hernando) Carreno. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with her extended family in Latvia, all of whom she loved deeply.

A service celebrating Lija's life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church on 406 E Amelia Street Orlando, FL 32803.

Lija will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, and the warmth she brought to every room. Her generous heart, beautiful voice, and radiant smile will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
