Paul Dennis Scherer, age 67, of Hartford, Wisconsin, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025.
Paul was born in Port Washington, Wisconsin, on April 22nd, 1958, to Arthur and Frances (née Parchim) Scherer.
Paul was a man who rarely sat still. From the moment he could walk, he was chasing speed, adventure, and the next project. Whether he was tuning up a motorcycle in the garage, racing on the track, or exploring the great outdoors, Paul lived life with intensity and joy.
He had a mechanic's mind and a restless spirit-always tinkering, building, fixing, or modifying something just because he could. He found beauty in engines, peace in the woods, and freedom on two and four wheels. His stories, shared around campfires or garage workbenches, will be missed as much as his big heart.
Paul was married to Cara Latz on May 23rd, 1981, in West Bend, Wisconsin. He was employed at Maysteel for 44 years until his retirement.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Sara (Brad) Otte of Lowell and Paula (Andrew) Schmitz of Slinger, and by his grandson, James Otte, who was always his partner in crime. He is also survived by numerous loving family members, nieces, nephews, and friends who became like family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Cara; his parents, Arthur and Frances Scherer; his infant sister, Sandra Scherer; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Patricia Latz; brothers-in-law, John (Jack) Latz and Kenneth Latz; and sisters-in-law, Robin Probst and Laurie Latz.
Services will be held at Shimon Funeral Home of Hartford, 824 Union St, Hartford, WI 53027, on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friends and family are invited to come as they are as we honor a man who never needed a suit to leave an impression.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to take a ride, fix something, or spend a quiet day outdoors in his memory. That's exactly what he would've wanted.
The family wanted to give a very special thanks to Serena and Christa from Serinity at Home for the help and care of Paul in his final time at home.
