John Paul Scherer, Jr., age 84, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on October 15, 2025. The service commemorating his life will be held at Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 1, 1941, John Scherer served his God, country, community and family well all his life. From serving in the U.S. Navy to founding Computer Helper and being involved in the Douglasville community, John will be remembered for his sacrificial love for people and for Jesus. He was a faithful member and deacon of Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church and served in children's ministry and as a Sunday School teacher for 49 years at various churches.
He enjoyed God's creation by working outside, often on his tractor or at his red barn. He sought to make his home a place where people could come to celebrate, worship, or simply fellowship. He delighted in memorizing portions of the Bible and in singing, especially with others in praise to God.
He will be remembered for his generous love for people, his joy and propensity for making people laugh, his dedication to God and his family, and his unwavering character that reflected Christ Jesus.
He is survived by his cherished wife: Sandy Bardin Scherer; children: Pamela Dawn Cagasan and her husband Teddy, Jeffrey Paul Scherer, John Philipp Scherer and his wife Heather; grandchildren: Annalysa Cagasan, Grace Thompson, Belle Redmon and her husband Cade, Julia Cagasan, Lily Scherer, Joshua Cagasan, Caleb Cagasan, Melody Cagasan, James Paul Scherer; and sister: Norma Hurt.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Paul Scherer, Sr., and Louise Jeanette Quinton Scherer, and sister: Donna Daily.
The family will receive friends at Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Howard Dial and Pastor Steve Smith officiating. The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 29th, at 12:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgins Drive, Canton, GA 30114.

Yesterday

Sandy and family, I am sorry I can´t join you and the family in the celebration of John´s home going and being in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
John was an inspiration to me:
Some years ago he shared the idea of sharing the gospel with those "aggravating " telemarketers. Been doing it ever since.
God Bless
