AHOSKIE, NC - Lila Rhea Powell Davenport, aged 93, peacefully departed this life on January 28, 2026, at Ahoskie Health and Rehab in
Ahoskie, North Carolina. Lila was born on March 12, 1932, in Hertford County, North Carolina, to her loving parents Sophronia Powell and Mary Trummel Powell.
Having spent her entire life in the place she dearly loved, Lila dedicated many years as a unit secretary at Roanoke Chowan Hospital until her retirement. Her days were filled with gratitude for her family, a sentiment she freely shared with those around her. As a devoted mother and grandmother, Lila cherished her grandchildren and consistently offered her support and kindness whenever she could.
After becoming widowed nearly four decades ago, Lila lovingly devoted herself to her children and grandchildren. Family visits brought immense joy to her life. In her leisure, she enjoyed taking walks when her health permitted and valued the moments of fellowship at the local hair salon, Kut N Up, and Charlie West Grill, where she often gathered with her lady friends. Lila's gentle spirit and unwavering love for her family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Ransome Nathaniel Davenport, and her siblings Barbara Martin, Marie Taylor, Betty Powell, and Buck Powell.
She is survived by her adoring children; Belinda Harder of Wake Forest, Cynthia Vann of Franklin, VA, Gayle Mizelle and husband Louis of Chapel Hill, NC, Diane Glover and husband Stephen of Raleigh, NC, Stephen Davenport and wife Mary of Argyle, TX, and Stephanie Brinkley and husband Clint of Aulander, NC. Her loving legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren; Joel Ferro of Wake Forest, Woody Vann of Franklin, VA, Mandy Mizelle and wife Janel of Durham, NC, Christopher Mizelle and fiancé, Jeovanna of Knightdale, NC, Brad Glover and wife Katie of Raleigh, NC, Aaron Glover and wife Anna of Raleigh, NC, Ashley Davenport of Argyle, TX, Josh Davenport of Argyle, TX, Alex Garris and husband Justin of Conway, NC, Austin Brinkley and wife Mckayla of Aulander, NC, great grandchildren; Lena, Abel, Colton, Ainsley, Jack, Claire, Emma, Sawyer, Harrison, and soon to be, Henry, and step great grandson, Liam.
Family will receive friends on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service,
Ahoskie, North Carolina. A celebration of Lila's beautiful life will follow in the chapel at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Mickey Willard and Chaplain Roy Faison. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in
Ahoskie, North Carolina.
