Seneca, South Carolina - Lillian Miller Callahan, wife of the late Melvern Homer Callahan, Jr., passed away peacefully at her residence on November 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Princess Anne, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John J. Miller and Anna Troyer Miller. Lillian worked at Bi-Lo in Seneca and later became the proud owner of the Dutch Maid Bakery in Fair Play, South Carolina. She was a devoted member of Life Line Community Church, where she nurtured her faith and friendships. Lillian found great joy in gardening, canning, cooking, quilting, and all things homemaking. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
Lillian is survived by her children, Melvern Callahan III (Patsy) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, John Michael Callahan (Shelly) of Starr, South Carolina, Patricia "Patty" Shaffer (Scott) of Fair Play, South Carolina, Charlotte Bullock of Fair Play, South Carolina, Tamara Petty (Malcolm) of Seneca, South Carolina; brothers, Jonas J. Miller of Chesapeake, Virginia, Harold Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her sisters, Ellen Yoder of Westminster, South Carolina, and Molly Kaufman of Seneca, South Carolina.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Shawna Wilson (Matt), Tara Hunnicutt (Michael), J.C. Callahan, Kayley Petty, and Kristin Petty; bonus grandchildren, Ashley Shaffer and Olivia Forrest (Scott); great-grandchildren, Mason, Saylor, and Emersyn; and bonus great-grandchildren, Anna Kate, Jackson, and Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Melvern Homer Callahan, Jr.; her son, Phillip Callahan; her siblings, Walter Miller, Sara Jane Spring, and two infant siblings.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00pm, Sunday, November 30th, 2025 at Lifeline Community Church with a private burial to follow.
The family is at their respective homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lillian's memory may be made to Jamaican Relief Ministries, 740 West Pine Grove Road, Fair Play, SC 29643. Condolences may be expressed online by visiting www.sandiferfuneralhome.com.
