Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Lillie Williams
"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalms 27:1
Born on October 7, 1925 to Matthew and Rennetta Williams, Lillie Williams was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched countless lives with her radiant smile, generous spirit, and unwavering faith. Lillie was a native of Lettsworth, Louisiana until her departure of this life on September 27, 2025.
From a young age, Lillie had an inspiring determination and was baptized in 1939 by the late Reverend Lewis at Scott Chapel United Methodist Church in Lettsworth, Louisiana where she worshipped until was dissolved in 2014. With a compassionate heart, Lillie transferred her membership to St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church where she became a deaconess and then served as the Mother of the Church. Lillie loved the Lord and you could often find her reading her Faith magazines or her Bible. She was not ashamed to pray and she often encouraged others to trust in the Lord and not lean unto their own understanding. Lillie had an unbreakable spirit and a giving heart. Her love language was food and serving others. If you were hungry, you could always come to her house for a delicious meal, or if you needed a place to stay her home was open. She was known for her famous Cushaw bread that was shared during the holidays with family and friends.
Lillie leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Florida Ward, Howard Barton, Vincent (Nelda) Williams, and Jesse (Cassandra) Williams; eleven grandchildren, Roderick Ward, Sr. and Monica (Anthony) Jernigan of whom she reared, Kevin Ward, Raechelle Harris-Sani, Demarcus (Amelia) Williams, Kim Williams, Satin Stine, JeShaun Williams, Cameron (Kim) Williams, Rennetta Williams Roper, and Lynn (Ann) Stelly; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Melva Williams; two sisters, Dorothy Britten and Anniestene Mack; son-in-law, Ray Harris; brother-in-law, Leonard Kinchen, Sr.; Godchildren, Ray Britten, Deborah Shenier Thomas and William Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Lillie is preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Rennetta Williams, daughter, Dorothy (Doe) Harris; son, Lynn "Mike" Williams; great-granddaughters, Kayla Ward and Taylor Ward; siblings, Frances Kinchen, Annie Britten, Willie Lee Honore, Eola McGhee, Howard Williams, Leroy Williams, Matthew Williams, Jr., Wesley Williams and Bobby Williams.
May her soul rest in Peace.
