Lincoln Joseph Smith, age 84, of Monterey passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.

He was born in San Diego, CA, on February 24, 1941, a son of the late Joseph Grant Smith and Bertha (Barker) Smith.

A software engineer, Mr. Smith worked and retired from IBM. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping others as an AA counselor. He also enjoyed boating, spot shooting and traveling. Above all, Mr. Smith loved the Lord and will be remembered as being friendly and social.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Cordell Claude Smith and Charles Lafayette Smith.

He is survived by his life partner, Mary Griffin of Monterey; daughters, Pamela Anne Smith and Lisa Anne Smith both of Wilmington, NC; son, Lincoln Joseph Smith Jr. and wife, Lisa of Los Angeles, CA; as well as grandchildren, Joseph Grant Smith, Erica Katharine Smith, Avery Elise Smith, Nicolas George Smith, and Kaitlyn Marie Ryan

A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Highland County Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 268, Monterey, Va. 24465.
