Linda Atterberry Obituary

Linda Darlene Atterberry
Jacksonville - The good Lord took Linda Darlene Atterberry home, Mar. 26, 2026. She was born Jan. 8, 1950, to Virgil Pitchford Sr. and Florence Martin Pitchford. She was always her daddy's baby girl. Linda met her love of her life, her soulmate, William Atterberry, through her best friend, Margaret Atterberry Kesinger. Bill and Linda married, Oct. 12, 1968, and were happily married until his passing, Aug. 14, 2007.
She is survived by one sister, Judy (Kenneth) Eads of West Terre Haute, IN; brothers, Bruce (Becky) Pitchford of Greenfield, Virgil (Tammy) Pitchford of Rockbridge; Kent (Barbara) Pitchford of Virden and Bill (Jaque) Martin of Terre haute, IN; several nieces and nephews; special spiritual daughter, Sherri Hennessey of Jacksonville and special friends, Pam and Larry Lewis. She was preceded in death by husband, Bill; daughter, Debbie Atterberry; a sister; a brother; and a sister-in-law.
Linda enjoyed her career at Greenfield Public Library while living in Greenfield. Shortly after, she went to work at Pathway Unlimited Services for 27 years. It was the place she truly felt dear to her heart. She retired but the love of the clients lingered. Due to unforeseen health conditions, the last several years of her life were spent at The Grove and several impatient hospitalizations. A special thanks to the Jacksonville Public Library where she got many books to read for many special hours of reading.
A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2026, at Oakwood Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to Greenfield Public Library, Jacksonville Public Library and The Grove Health and Rehab. Daws Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
