It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Sue Bast, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on November 3, 2025, at the age of 68. Linda was born on December 5, 1956, to Dorris E. and Frances (Kamler) Spurgeon in Cuba, Missouri, where she lived her life with grace and generosity.
Linda's love story began on May 14, 1977, when she married Donald Bast. Together, they nurtured a family filled with love, welcoming three children: Marcus, Danielle, and Bethany. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and joy, enriched by the laughter of her five grandchildren, Kiyah, Neela, Emory, Patricia, and Otto, all of whom were the light of her life.
Professionally, Linda dedicated many years to the Pharmacy Department at Wal-Mart, where her kindness and compassion touched the lives of countless customers. She was an active member of the Cuba Church of Christ since her teens and helped with Blue Sky Day School for 20 plus years. Her commitment to serving her community did not stop there; she volunteered tirelessly with the Lone Star 4-H Club, the Crawford County Extension, Crawford County Fair and she was inducted into the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame in 2018. She also previously contributed her time on the Crawford County R2 School Board. Her talents for sewing, quilting, gardening, and crafting were shared generously with those around her, leaving a legacy of creativity and care.
Linda was a pillar of strength, always putting others first and leading with her heart. Her deep love for her family, the 4-H community, and the town of Cuba echoed through every endeavor she undertook. She will be profoundly missed, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Linda is preceded in death by her father, Dorris E. Spurgeon, and her cherished in-laws, Lester and Berenice Bast, as well as her siblings-in-law, George Bast, Eugene Bast, Virginia Bast, Jean Bast, and Vera Maschek.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald Bast; her three children, Marcus (Tanis), Danielle, and Bethany (Zane Berner); her mother, Frances (Hugh) McNary; her in-laws Sr. Rose Bast, Joan Viril, Kathleen Bast, Bill (Nancy) Bast, Jerry (Carolyn) Bast, Larry Bast, Chuck (Suzanne) Bast, Joan E. Haussels; her five grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 4-8 p.m. at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Elliot Hine. Interment will take place at Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Prairie Bible Camp, P.O. Box 251, Rolla, Missouri 65402 or through their website at www.littleprairie.org.
