Linda Bird Obituary

Linda Ann Bird, 69, passed away peacefully at home under the care of hospice with family nearby on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. She was born March 11, 1956, in Montague, Michigan, to Floyd and Thelma Clements.
A lifelong resident of the Montague/Whitehall area, Linda graduated from Montague High School and went on to build a remarkable 40-year career at Howmet, where she served as a trainer in the Wax Department. Her warm spirit and genuine care for others earned her numerous lifelong friends throughout her years there.
Linda married the love of her life, Basil Bird, in July 1981, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. Basil preceded her in death in May 2024.
Above all else, Linda will be remembered for putting others before herself in everything she did. She embraced the motto "Live, Laugh, Love" words she didn't just say, but truly embodied every day. Her greatest joy was making those around her happy. Her sons and daughters-in-law knew that every visit would come with bags overflowing with thoughtful gifts, handmade crafts, and delicious food. Her grandchildren eagerly anticipated the candy, toys, and noisemakers she would sneak to them each time they saw her.
Linda's generous heart extended far beyond her family. She dedicated countless hours to her "Ladies of Leisure" quilting group, creating handcrafted items to donate to charities. Her passion for giving back led her to help establish "Helping Hearts," a charity where she secured donations for materials and organized crafting events for children in the community.
In April 2025, Linda received an unexpected diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer. When told she had only days to live due to liver failure, she made the courageous decision to try chemotherapy to have more precious time with her family. She was rewarded with eight remarkable months filled with treasured moments: beach days, concerts, shopping trips with dear friends, boat rides and sunsets at her son's cottage, craft projects with loved ones, and even a booth at a local crafting fair. Though she knew her battle would come to an end, Linda filled those final months creating priceless memories with everyone she loved.
Linda is survived by her sons, Tim (Molly) Bird and Anthony (Jennifer) Bird; grandchildren Lincoln, Brayden, and Mason; siblings Brenda (Brian) Doom, Glenda (Ken) Olejarczyk, Ronald (Annette) Clements, and Donald (Rita) Clements; and Cheyanne, who was dear to her heart. Her grandchildren will also welcome her beloved dog companion, Muffy Magnolia, into their care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Bird; her father, Floyd Clements; and her mother, Thelma Clements.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel in Whitehall, Michigan. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held this summer with further details to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Linda helped found the Whitelake Kid crafters with me, she was my husband cousin. We met when I was 18, my husband always had a huge love and respect for her ability to establish what ever he and the other kids were doing. This always made me laugh. I am so grateful to have had the chance to know her better in the last ten years. She is my inspiration and I will miss her deeply.

The beautiful, oh, so true, words spoken in Linda's obituary were truly written from the heart. Anyone who came in contact with her couldn't help but feel her caring spirit. Hers was a life well lived. During one of my last conversations with her, I expressed to her what an inspiration she has been in my life, especially in recent months. We will all be better people by taking a page from her book by being kind and paying forward all the caring she showed toward others.
Linda, you were a real treasure in my life. Thank you for the love and laughter we shared. I will miss you always. Your sister-in-law, Julie
