Linda Rogers Cox, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went to heaven on October 4, 2024, at the age of 82 with her daughters at her bedside. Born on March 13, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, she was the oldest daughter of Claude Alfred Rogers and Frances King Rogers Blakney. Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles Ernest Cox, and by her son, Grant Rogers Cox.
Linda is survived by her two daughters, T. Michelle Cox (James Muehlberg) and Amy Gunnerson along with five beloved grandchildren: Lukas and Levi Muehlberg, Mitchell and M. Riley Gunnerson, and Theodore Cox. She is also survived by her siblings, Roy Rogers (Robbie), Ken Rogers (Glenda), and Bonnie Ellis (Joseph).
Linda grew up in DeQueen, Arkansas, where she met her husband Charles, who always saved her a seat on the school bus and referred to her as the "yellow rose of Texas." Linda was an avid reader and bright student who spent her lunchtime walking to the library in town to stock up on books and so she could spend her weekends climbing trees and riding her horse "Babe." Linda graduated from De Queen High School in 1960 and went on to study Home Economics at Southern State College in Magnolia, AR.
Linda found her purpose in her family and her home, filling both with love and beauty. As a stay-at-home mom, she sewed outfits for children's choirs, chaperoned field trips, served on volunteer committees and baked for class parties. As her children got older, Linda worked for many years as a church secretary and for non-profit agencies.
Linda found joy in her hobbies of painting, decorating, and genealogy and ancestry, tracing her family's history and contributing to the written family history. Her talent for growing flowers was always on display in the front yard, where she cultivated roses of all colors, but especially yellow. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her strength, and her Rogers "grit."
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Nov. 30 at Chandler Funeral Home in DeQueen, AR. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Virginia Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/cwva or the Mountain View Nursing Home in Aroda, Va., operated by the Oak Grove Mennonite Church, by emailing [email protected].
