Linda Ellis, a cherished soul whose life was as colorful and vibrant as her paintings, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at her home in Cow Creek Estates, North of
Pierre, South Dakota. Born on June 3, 1947, in
Pierre, SD, Linda's journey began with a childhood filled with the small-town charm of Agar, SD, where she attended grade school and high school, setting the stage for a life rich in community and creativity.
A bookkeeper by profession, Linda's meticulous nature and keen eye for detail served her well throughout her career. She began her journey at Ellis Drug Store in Onida, SD, where she first honed her skills in managing accounts and keeping impeccable records. Her career path then led her to the reputable Meyer Law Firm in Onida, where she continued to build her expertise. In 1978, Linda's life took a significant turn when she moved to Pierre and joined the Olinger Law Firm, further solidifying her reputation as a reliable and dedicated professional.
Throughout her career, Linda's passion for numbers was matched only by her love for the arts and the outdoors. She took pride in dressing beautifully, a reflection of the grace with which she carried herself. Her talents extended to painting, where she generously gave many of her works to family and friends, and to crafting, where she was a familiar face at many craft shows. Linda's culinary skills were renowned, especially when she and her mother, Lorraine, spent weekends trying to duplicate the famous Bunkhouse enchilada recipe from Agar, SD.
Linda's zest for life was also evident in her love for hunting and fishing alongside her beloved husband, Charles. The couple spent countless weekends in the early '80s camping and fishing with family and friends at the private campground Sutton Bay in Sully County, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in crocheting and quilting, each stitch a testament to her patience and creativity.
After a fulfilling career, Linda retired from Bankwest in August 2016, having started there in August 1997. Retirement allowed her to fully embrace her many interests and spend more time with those she loved. She and Charles eventually moved to Cow Creek Estates, where they enjoyed the serenity of their surroundings.
Linda's legacy lives on through her family and friends, who find comfort in the memories of her unwavering love and the beauty she brought into the world. She is survived by her special friend and caretaker, Brianne Jensen, who stood by her with unwavering support during her final days, her son, Glen Ellis, Cow Creek; and three grandsons, Cody Dewell, children, Izzy, Audri, Layndon, EJ, Carter, Lincoln, Dak and Tayson; grandson Alex Meagher, and grandson Cord Ellis.
