Linda Frankenberry, an example of light, love, intelligence and humor (with an English accent) passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, in Somers, NY. She was 82 years old
Born on February 20, 1942, in North Yorkshire, England, Linda spent a lifetime brightening the days of all who had the pleasure and good fortune of crossing paths with her and just being in her company.
Linda decided, at the age of 20, to leave the comfort of her hometown of Richmond and travel to New York when she immigrated to the United States in 1962. She soon met and fell for the love of her life, Joseph Frankenberry, and they married the following year at St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights, NY. It was here that Linda found herself welcomed, with open arms, into Joseph's family, her new family, where she would foster lifelong friendships while she and Joseph also built a family of their own.
She was a devoted mother to Stephen, Dominic, and Rebecca, and also a number of foster children, where she had the chance, she and Joseph, to show them what love was and should be. She was a cherished grandmother "Granny" to Jacob Joseph Ivener and Matthew Logan Ivener. She was a sister to Kenneth Wagstaff and the late Geoffrey Wagstaff, and a daughter to the late Kenneth & Eleanor (Metcalf) Wagstaff.
Linda's professional life was highlighted by her many years as a Teaching Assistant at B.O.C.E.S. for the Yorktown School District, where she touched the lives of countless special needs students and where she made even more friends.
She was always one for a good murder mystery, whether in the escape of a book or on the small screen, as she always loved a good yarn, as you could tell from the ones she would tell herself but usually far better ones (not the "murder mystery" part though of course). This was a skill she shared with Joseph, also a wondrous storyteller. Though he passed away almost 30 years now, her love for him and the memories of their together never waned.
And though she did eventually become a U.S. citizen her passion for the light of her beloved England and that small English town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, where it all began, never dimmed.
Linda Frankenberry's life will be marked by her love of it, all of it, in the hardships that came but also in the glories that would push those hardships aside with love and laughter and friendships. It will be marked by those friendships and her devotion to them. It will be marked by her children who are far better people because of her. It will be marked by all that crossed her path and who are also far better people because of her and those path's crossed.
She was, simply, a friend, a best of friend and will be dearly missed.
