Linda Garner Adams Prock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 3 to Jul. 6, 2023.
Linda Jean Garner Adams Prock passed away June 29, 2023 in College Station, Texas, and is now with her savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Altus L. Garner and Gertrude Barnett Garner of Reliance; husband Edward V. Adams, Jr. of Bryan; brother, Capt. Johnnie L. Garner, USMC; and son Robert Prock of Flower Mound. She is survived by her husband Robert L. Prock of Bryan; sister, Jackie Sue Stephenson and brother-in-law Ted Stephenson of Bryan; sister-in-law Shan Coulter and Bill Coulter of Boulder, Colorado; son E. V. "Rusty" Adams III, daughter-in-law Debbie Adams, grandchildren Luke Latham, Ali Latham, and Travis Adams, all of College Station; daughter-in-law, Debbie Prock Stanley of Abilene and grandchildren Kylie Driver and Taryn Prock; son Joel Prock and daughter-in-law Sherry Prock of Lubbock and grandchildren Tiffany Terrazas, Lacy Burks, and Ryan Rosen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, former students, and friends. Linda was a member of First Methodist Church of Bryan, and previously a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan, Central Baptist Church, and Steep Hollow Baptist Church.

Linda was born February 23, 1945 in Bryan and grew up in Reliance. She attended Kurten School, Lamar Junior High, and was a 1963 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University in 1967. Linda began her career at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco before moving back to Bryan in 1968. She was band and choir director at Anson Jones Junior High School from 1968 to 1972, band director at Stephen F. Austin Junior High from 1974 to 1989, and band director at Bryan High School from 1989 to 1993. She then returned to SFA for the rest of her Bryan career. She was well-known and respected, and she came out of retirement several times for stints at Allen Academy, Franklin High School, Palacios High School, and Poteet High School.

Her bands won numerous first division ratings in marching, concert, and sight-reading, often winning the "Sweepstakes" award. Her students also excelled in solo and ensemble competitions and earned spots in All-District, All-Region, All-Area, and All-State Bands and Orchestras. While her bands were successful, Linda was more than a teacher and a band director. She was a friend, counselor, and mentor, who taught real life lessons in addition to music. Linda was fun, and her students had fun. When she was not making music or teaching music, Linda loved fishing, crafts, traveling, and serving others.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Linda Adams Prock Scholarship Fund, c/o Bryan ISD Education Foundation, 801 S. Ennis, Bryan, Texas 77803. Those wishing to send flowers may send them to First Methodist Church, 506 E. 28th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.

Services will be held Saturday, July 8 at 10:30 am at First Methodist Church of Bryan. Linda loved loud, vibrant colors. Attendees are encouraged to dress colorfully to celebrate her life.

So very sorry to hear of Linda´s loss. 15 years ago my husband and I were on a land/cruise to Alaska and we met Linda and Bob. On the last day of the cruise I learned of my 35 year old son´s death in Pennsylvania. Linda and Bob had words of comfort for my husband and I and we exchanged addresses. We were sending Christmas cards to each other and we were friends on Facebook. I am saddened to hear of her passing. She helped me at that time of the Alaska cruise and I have not forgotten her kindness to us. My condolences to her family.

Rusty, you´re in my heart´s prayers. As you know, your Mom and I were great BISD buddies, family buddies, and mischievous buddies. I know that once things settle down in Heaven for her, she will look for fun things for her and I to "get into" when I see her next.
Thank you for memorializing her with a Bryan ISD Scholarship. Very amazing students will have the honor of having that.
My condolences to your entire extended family. She will be greatly missed,

Have known Linda for many years thru her excellent work with Bryan Bands, fishing at Port O´Connor and especially thru her Father in law , COL. E.V. Adams, her husband Ed, and her son Rusty, and Mimi. What a wonderful family, and a legacy with the Texas Aggie Band. Linda always shared her smile and positive outlook on life, her love of family and her band students. Her faith always her strength, her success always about the band kids. With our love for her and the family!
COL. And Mrs. Jay O. Brewer, and on behalf of the Fightin´ Texas Aggie Band!!

Mrs Adams was my band director in Jr High. She helped me get started on bassoon and I´m still playing today...60 years later! She was a great teacher and wonderful mentor.
