September 17, 1945- August 20, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Linda Cheryl Heller, who left us on August 20, 2025, at her home in
Greensboro, North Carolina. Linda was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, to Ellen and William Heller, and was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Nadel; son-in-law, Trevor Hindmarch; and granddaughter, Erin; as well as her niece, Wendy Miller, sister-in-law, Isabelle Gelot, and a host of dear friends. Linda was pre-deceased by her sister, Bonnie Miller-Gilford, and brother, Douglas Heller.
A lifelong learner and passionate advocate for education, Linda graduated from Albion College with a BA in History and Biology. Her academic journey continued with a Master of Education from the University of Minnesota, and doctoral studies at Wayne State University. She spent many years working in special education and enjoyed a diverse career at Wachovia Bank, where she worked for 19 years before transitioning to a life that blended her love for nature and teaching.
Linda's move to Greensboro in 1986 marked the beginning of her active involvement in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where she dedicated countless hours to the vestry, various committees, and the choir. In addition, her love of the natural world led her to a passion for flyfishing. She loved traveling throughout her life, and began sharing her fishing expertise with others by hosting guided trips, teaching women's flyfishing lessons, serving as an advisor for a flyrod company, and authoring articles on the subject.
A deeply devoted daughter and sister, Linda gave generously of her time and energy to care for her aging parents and her siblings. Her greatest pride, however, was her daughter, Rebecca, and her family. The joy she found in her role as Oma to her now 10-year-old granddaughter, Erin, was the highlight of her later years, and she cherished every moment spent with her.
Linda had a profound connection to nature and the outdoors, particularly in the waters she so loved to fish. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The Nature Conservancy.
Linda's life was a testament to the power of friendship, learning, and the joy of the natural world. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (2105 W. Market Street, Greensboro NC) on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11am.
