Linda Henderson, 72, of Centerville, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Linda was born to Litel Sr. and Doris (Conger) Bates in Centerville on August 28, 1953. She received her education from Centerville Schools, graduating in 1971. She later earned her Associate of Arts Degree from Indian Hills Community College. On June 27, 1971, she was united in marriage to Bill Henderson in Centerville. To this union, three children were born: Josh, Travis, and Sonja.
Linda spent many years working as the Business Manager with Centerville Schools, where she was a caring and dependable presence for the staff.
Family was always at the center of Linda's world. She was deeply devoted to her grandchildren and could always be found cheering them on in their activities, celebrating their accomplishments, and making sure they knew how loved they were. She created countless traditions that her family will forever treasure - from annual trips to Adventureland, to her famous Christmas celebrations where she "went all out" to make the season magical.
Linda had a gift for making others feel welcome. She never met a stranger, and her warmth and kindness quickly turned acquaintances into friends. She enjoyed spending time with her close circle of friends, whether sharing a meal, a laugh, or a heartfelt conversation. She was also an active and faithful member of her church, where she found joy in worship and fellowship.
At home, Linda loved to cook, filling her kitchen with wonderful meals and memories. She was an avid reader who found comfort and adventure in books. Her gentle humor, generosity, and ability to bring people together made her a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Survivors include her children: Josh (Misty) Henderson, Travis (Ginger) Henderson, Sonja (A.J.) Hook; grandchildren, Madik Henderson, Vivie Henderson, Ivy Henderson, Josie Henderson, Lincoln Henderson, Lilly Henderson, Kole Hook, Avery Hook, and Ryker Hook and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years, Bill Henderson and her brothers: Neil, Litel Jr., Richard, Ronnie and Donnie Bates and a sister Judi Hiatt.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Friday, September 19, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Eric Hoover officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati. Visitation will be all day Thursday at Thomas Funeral Home with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to East Pleasant Church of Christ and condolences may be shared at https://www.thomasfh.com or https://facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
