Linda Hammann Knauth joined our Lord on January 2, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 90 years old. She was born Linda May Hammann on July 2, 1934, to Alletah and Edwin Hammann in Sherman, Texas. Linda grew up in Dallas, Texas, and attended SMU for her undergraduate degree and then received a Masters in Music from the University of Texas. She married Jay Francis Knauth on July 18, 1959. They went on to have three boys, Patrick Wade (Kristi) Knauth, Christopher Edwin Knauth, and Kurt J. (Laura) Knauth. Her grandchildren include, Patrick (Haylee), Kelsey, Caroline, Taylor (Will), Matt, Jake, and Cutter; with one great-grandson, Everett Knauth.
Linda dedicated her life's work to teaching, serving in a variety of teaching roles including countless classes of elementary students, serving as the music teacher at a variety of local schools, and taught piano from 3:30 until 7 every day after school. She balanced these roles while raising three boys after the death of her husband, Jay, in 1980. She went on to put all three boys through college, as well as law school, medical school, and an additional undergraduate degree. Selfless and strong in her faith, she attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she also participated in the choir. She was sure to take her boys out to Fort Davis every year for Bloys Camp Meeting, a "cowboy" church retreat focusing on scripture and joyful worship. Piano was her passion and she played as a concert pianist with the Women's Club of Beaumont, with her last performance in 2015 at the age of 81.
Linda loved to travel and heroically took her three boys on road trips to Colorado and Arkansas every summer. As a young woman out of college, she relished her trip to Europe with her best friends. Later in life, she made great efforts to take her grandchildren on youth hostel retreats around the country while also taking many trips with friends throughout the years.
Remembered for her infectious smile and laughter, Linda has left a legacy of love, selflessness, and hard work. She was an inspiration to us all, and she is sorely missed. We are consoled that she is finally at peace with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
We'd like to add special gratitude to April Adaway, and the amazing staff at April's House of Angels. Diane, Sarah, Megan, and Ashley all took such loving care of Linda over the last year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
