Linda “Darlene” Rose Matthews, 79, of Lumberton, NC, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Angel House Hospice Care Center – Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Whiteville, NC.
Linda was a woman of many passions. An avid gardener, she spent countless hours tending to her vibrant flowerbeds, which were a testament to her patience and dedication. Linda was a bookworm, whether it was mystery, drama, non-fiction, or even the Bible, she had read it. She also grew fond of watching movies and multiple different TV series in her retirement. As a grandmother, Linda delighted in fun-loving conversation with Kaylei and maintained a love of adventure during their summer vacations together. Linda was a quiet observer, a listening ear, and a steadfast source of wisdom. She taught her children that true strength is rooted in kindness and compassion even in the face of adversity. Her contagious laughter and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her. Linda will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed and forever cherished by everyone who loved her. We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
Our family would like to extend a deep appreciation to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, the staff of Angel House Hospice Care Center, and everyone who provided care to Linda during her battle with gastric cancer. As a family, we will be forever grateful for the support and kindness shown.
Born December 21, 1945, in Rocky Mount of Nash Co., NC, Linda was the daughter of the late Ernest Rose and Pattie Bailey Rose.
Linda is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Matthews; daughter, Rebecca Unser (Travis); son, William Murray III (Betty); beloved granddaughter, Kaylei Murray (Noelia); stepdaughters, Ashley Matthews and Mackenzie Wade (Matt); and a host of other family and friends.
Linda will be laid to rest at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC.
