Linda Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Winters Funeral Home - Winters on Jan. 28, 2026.
Linda Jean Owen Mitchell, age 77, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Linda was born on September 22, 1948, in Bryan, Texas, to Charles and Martha Owen. Linda grew up in Orange, Texas and graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in 1967. She attended Hardin Simmons University and later the University of North Texas, where she graduated in 1973 with a degree in Interior Design. Upon graduation, Linda moved to Abilene, working as an assistant Interior Designer.

While in Abilene, she met Mike Mitchell, and they married on September 28,1974. They made their home near Winters, Texas, and they had two children, Jason and Justin. While Jason and Justin were in elementary school, Linda attended Angelo State University where she earned her teaching certification in Elementary Education. She taught school for twenty-four years at Winters Elementary, retiring in 2012.

Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winters, where she taught Sunday School and was actively involved in many aspects of her church. She was also an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels, the Winters Public Library, and Interim Hospice.

Her greatest joy was her family and most recently, her grandchildren. Linda is survived by her son, Jason Mitchell and his wife, Andrea; her granddaughters, Lexie, Katie, Maddie, and Lauren; her brother, Brian Owen and his wife Kathleen; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Rock; and her brother-in-law, A.L. Mitchell and his wife Carol.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Martha Owen; her brother, David Owen; her son, Justin Mitchell; her husband, Mike Mitchell; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Young; and her brothers-in-law, Garner Young and Bob Rock.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 23, at the First Baptist Church in Winters. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Winters, the Winters Public Library, or a charity of your choice.

I grew up with Linda and her family in Orange,Texas. We went to school together from Kindergarten to Graduation in 1967. We lived only a few houses from each other on Westway. I remember when her brother David passed away. We even carpooled to high school together. Brian, please except my condolences to your family during this difficult time. Sincerely Paula Haworth San Angelo.
