Linda Olstad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Silha Funeral Homes - Beach on May 6, 2025.
Linda Marie Olstad (Gaab) age 70 of Sentinel Butte North Dakota passed away peacefully on Saturday May 3rd, 2025, at St. Benedictine Nursing Home in Dickinson ND.
Linda (Lynn) was born October 31st, 1954, in Dickinson ND to Mike and Regina (Zentner) Gaab of Dickinson. Her father Mike was associated with the Western Livestock Sale Yards, during this time Linda grew up around animals of all types learning to raise and care for them. During her high school years Linda worked at Dickinson Nursing Center. Linda proceeded to graduate from Dickinson High School in 1972. After high school Linda started working for Mrs. Fischer as a full-time nanny. Later, transitioning to a truck driver position for Fischer Sand and Gravel.
Linda was introduced to Layton (Dick) in 1982. At this time, she was working for the ND Department of Transportation. Linda and Dick shared a love for live bands and tearing up the dance floor. Linda enjoyed trap shooting and bird hunting along with spending time with her future father-in-law Harmon out at the ranch. On March 12, 1987, the two tied the knot in Las Vegas. (No, it wasn't by Elvis). In January of 1989 they welcomed their first son Donn. In 1990 Linda and Dick moved to the Olstad family ranch to raise their family. In April of 1990 they welcomed their second son Michael.
In the following years, Linda enjoyed working the ranch with Dick and raising her two boys. Her house was always open to her sons' friends and their shenanigans, in which some were blessed with the title of son also. She made sure no one left the place hungry. Lindas love for animals always got the best of her, from raising bottle calves to full grown pets to vet rescues needing a new home.
Linda also had a knack for photography from wildlife and scenery to graduation photos. Linda enjoyed a good game of pinochle when the Gaab family would get together. Linda shared a love of rummage sales with a couple of the local ladies.
Linda is survived by her husband Layton Olstad, sons Donn Olstad (Ashlee) of Dickinson, ND and Michael (Megan) Olstad of Belfield, ND, sister Kathleen (Herbert) Billman of Dickinson, ND and six grandchildren Otis, Karalynn, Jacklin, Layton, Milo, and Elayne.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Brother Jim, and two infant siblings.
