Jill Quick Obituary

Jill (Linda) Quick

November 1, 1950 - February 9, 2026

Jill (Linda) Quick (nee Sherwood) died unexpectedly at home on February 9, 2026, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, at the age of 75.

Jill was born on November 1, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert Dale and Patricia Ann (Rothinghouse) Sherwood. She grew up in Glenview, Illinois, and graduated from Glenbrook South High School in 1968. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin - Stout, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education in 1972. In the summer of 1977, she completed her Master of Science in Home Economics Education, also from the University of Wisconsin - Stout.

During her time at Stout, she met the love of her life, Jim Quick. They were married on July 8, 1972 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, and shared 53 blessed years together.

Jill began her 36-year teaching career at Adams-Friendship High School, teaching Family and Consumer Education. In 1976, Jill set down roots in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where she began teaching at Elk Mound High School, instructing students in grades 6 through 12. She remained at Elk Mound until her retirement.

Her classes covered essential life skills, including culinary arts and nutrition, financial literacy, family and child development, interior design, textile arts, and much more. Through her teaching, she impacted generations of students, equipping them with practical knowledge and confidence that extended far beyond the classroom. Up until the day she passed, her family was continually amazed by the sheer number of former students who reached out to "Mrs. Quick" to express their gratitude for the lasting impact that she had as a teacher.

In her retirement, Jill loved tending her garden, cooking, and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also enjoyed adding to her collection of frogs "on occasion" which, in her case, meant all the time. Those who knew her felt the warmth of her heart, the generosity of her spirit, and the quiet strength that held her family together. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished friend.

Jill is survived by her husband, James J. Quick; her children, Jeffrey Quick and Jessa (Brett) Torvik; and her four grandchildren, Kaia, Anderson, Desmond, and Freya Torvik. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David Quick; and her sisters-in-law, Barbara Quick and Ann Sherwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Delores Quick; her father-in-law, James W. Quick; and her brother, Robert Sherwood, who passed away recently.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar St, Eau Claire, WI 54703, with Pastor Josh Toufar officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Luncheon to follow the funeral service. Inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
